Stepping Up For Cancer supporters

On Bank Holiday Monday 6 May, more than 100 loyal supporters and some four-legged friends braved the very wet weather to walk up to 10km to raise money to fund our life-changing services and research work. Since the event first started in 2005 this was the muddiest walk we have had but well done and thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated or took part on the day, raising over £4,000!

The rainy weather on the day was unable to dampen the enthusiasm of some of our most committed and loyal supporters, who raised more than £4,000 for us on the day by taking part in the walk.

Once again, our very popular Golf Day at Denham Golf Club was full up, with many local businesses supporting the event with hole sponsorship. The lovely ladies from Moor Park Golf Club helped at the betting hole, and auctioneer Andrew Binstock worked his magic running the auction helping to raise a total of £11,500.

Our golf day in June raised an amazing £11,500. Pictured are winners Flannery Plant Hire together with organisers Pam Holland (second from right) and Caroline Wren (right).

We have one spare space for the Vitality London 10,000 on Sunday 22 September. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a British Championships competitor, the Vitality London 10,000 is an event for all to enjoy, The 10km (6.2mile) course takes you past some of London’s most famous landmarks, including St Paul’s Cathedral and Big Ben. If you would like to take up this place, please contact the appeals office email appeals@stricklandscanner.org.uk or call 01923 886315.

Supporters Jacky (left) and Debbie put on a plant sale recently, raising more than £200.

Other exciting upcoming events include

  • our next Quiz Night on 28 September at Greenfields Primary School, Watford and
  • The Big Half on Sunday 1 September.

Many of our supporters have chosen to take on various treks and challenges this year in support of Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, sometimes as a personal challenge, or sometimes in memory of a loved one. These booked challenges included the Ride London-Surrey 100 Cycle Ride in May and The Big Half run through London in September, but there are many other options available. You can be as ambitious as you like – from a country walk or run, to a huge challenge like climbing a mountain – we have multiple options available to us. So if you’d like to get involved and challenge yourself while helping our patients, get in touch and we will find the right event for you.
