Getting to Paul Strickland Scanner Centre in Northwood

Entry to Mount Vernon Hospital

There are three entrances to Mount Vernon Hospital, all leading to car parks.

Gates 1 and 2 are located on Rickmansworth Road (A404). Both have large car parks. It is often easier to find a space to park in these car parks, but they are further from Paul Strickland Scanner Centre.

Gate 3 is on White Hill. This is the nearest car park for Paul Strickland Scanner Centre.

You cannot drive through the hospital site, so the relevant gate must be used to access your preferred car park.

Parking arrangements

Parking charges apply 24 hours a day. Parking conditions and rates are displayed in the car park.

The parking meters accept coins and use the PayByPhone app.

Blue Badge holders, there is blue badge parking on the hospital site, however this is limited.

Some patients attending Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (which is separate to Paul Strickland Scanner Centre) may be eligible to park at a reduced rate.

Getting to Mount Vernon Hospital by bus

The following buses stop outside the Treatment Centre near Gate 2:

  • 282 (Ealing Hospital— Eastcote— Northwood Hills— Northwood— Mount Vernon)
  • 331 (Uxbridge Station— Denham— Harefield— Mount Vernon – Northwood— Ruislip)
  • 508 (Hemel Hempstead/Watford – Mount Vernon)
  • H11 (Harrow— Pinner— Northwood— Mount Vernon)

Getting to Mount Vernon Hospital by train

TFL, Underground. Take the Metropolitan line to Northwood station. Take the 282 or H11 bus from bus stop C to the Hospital, or 331 bus towards Uxbridge.

Chiltern Railways to Rickmansworth, then take the Metropolitan line to Northwood. There are frequent bus services between Northwood and Mount Vernon. Alternatively, travel to Denham station and take the 331 bus from bus stop A to the hospital.

Getting to Lister Hospital in Stevenage

Your scan will take place in a mobile PET-CT scanner at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.

The mobile PET-CT scanner is a big white lorry with “InHealth PET CT” written on it and it is parked just south of the Plaza.

Parking arrangements

The Lister Hospital has a large multi-storey car park which also has spaces for blue badge holders.

The car park uses automatic number plate recognition technology. When you are ready to depart, you will need to go to the payment machines located by the main entrance and enter in your vehicle registration. The system will then automatically calculate your parking charge and you will be able to pay using cash, card, or Apple Pay.

If there are any issues with the payment machines, please ask for assistance at the Saba Parking Shop, which is located at the base of the car park.

Upon exiting the car park, follow the outdoor footpath to just south of the Plaza and look out for the scanner lorry.

If you are getting a lift

Ask to be dropped off in the drop off area before the multi storey car park near the mobile PET-CT unit.

If you get lost, go to the main Lister Hospital reception on level 3 and ask them to ring the mobile unit so you can be collected.

Getting to Lister Hospital by bus

Busses stop at the south side of the hospital on Coreys Mill Lane. From the bus stop, follow the outdoor footpath in the direction of the main hospital entrance until you get to just south of the Plaza where the mobile scanner unit is parked. Getting to Lister Hospital by train

Trains stop at Stevenage Railway Station, with regular busses running between Stevenage town centre and the hospital.
