Paul Strickland Scanner Centre has launched a private prostate cancer screening service for men without symptoms seeking a clearer understanding of their prostate health.
The service uses MRI to identify changes in the prostate that may require further investigation. Eligible men can self-refer through the Centre’s website without a GP referral or prior PSA blood test.
It is available to men aged 50 to 74 who do not have significant symptoms of prostate cancer. Black men can access the service from age 45 because of their higher risk of developing the condition.
The scan takes less than 20 minutes, uses no ionising radiation and requires no injection. The £550 cost includes the scan and specialist reporting by an experienced consultant radiologist.
The service is led by Professor Anwar Padhani, Lead Consultant for MRI at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre and an internationally recognised expert in prostate cancer imaging.
Professor Padhani said: “MRI has become a powerful tool for assessing prostate cancer risk more accurately. Used responsibly, it can help identify cancers that need treatment, while sparing many men unnecessary procedures. This service is about informed reassurance, not replacing NHS care.”
MRI cannot diagnose prostate cancer on its own. If the scan identifies an area of concern, the patient’s GP will manage onward referral for necessary investigations.
As an independent medical charity, the Centre reinvests income from private services in advanced imaging and research. Further information and the booking form are available at https://stricklandscanner.org.uk/for-patients/prostate-cancer-screening/
