Supporter Andy Taylor, a teacher at Northwood College school, has completed his extraordinary challenge to run six marathons in 2026, raising an impressive £12,374 for Paul Strickland Scanner Centre. Andy not only completed all six marathons but also exceeded his original fundraising target of £10,000, thanks to the generosity of friends, family, colleagues and pupils.
He took on the challenge in memory of his beloved mother-in-law, Margaret (Marg) Gross, who benefitted from the outstanding care provided by Paul Strickland Scanner Centre during her treatment. His fundraising has honoured her memory while supporting local cancer patients.
Andy’s challenge started with The Doughnut Dash in Sunbury-on-Thames on 11 January and finished on 3 May at the Great Limerick Run – Marg’s hometown.
His other marathons included Tribe Race at Chalfont St Peters on 24 January, The Wacky Races Marathon in Staines 22 February, the Brighton Marathon on 12 April and the Windsor 50 Mile Ultra Challenge on 18 April.
To finish his challenge off, pupils in years 4, 5 and 6 at Northwood College school for girls, Northwood took part in a sponsored running event, completing laps (one lap is 0.5miles) of the school field. Andy said, “They did very well and brought in an amazing amount of donations. Every donation received, no matter the size, will help this amazing charity continue its life-saving work – thank you so much for your support”.
Andy said: “It’s been 10 years since Marg, my wonderful mother-in-law, sadly died from cancer. Marg received care from Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, whose vital work focuses on early diagnosis and saving lives. This challenge is my way of continuing to support the incredible difference they make to so many families while honouring Marg’s memory – I know she would be incredibly proud.”
