Among the guests, Cllr Colleen Sullivan (pictured in the middle), Mayor of Hillingdon, attended the event and cut the ribbon to the centre’s new waiting room alongside Ms Joanne Langfield, Chair of the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre Board of Trustees (right), and our CEO Claire Strickland (left). Ms Strickland is the daughter of the late Dr Paul Strickland OBE, who founded the centre in 1985 after leading a major fundraising drive.
The opening event marked the conclusion of a multimillion-pound investment in Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, made possible by charitable donations from supporters, fundraisers, and donors. Since 2022, the centre has added two new MRI scanners, a new PET-CT scanner, a new waiting room, and a new reporting room, along with a radiology information system for the team of expert consultants who analyse the scans.
The new scanners, operated by a team of specialist radiographers, are equipped with the latest imaging technology and can produce higher quality images more quickly than the previous machines. This allows more patients to be scanned in a given time and can provide doctors with better information about a patient’s condition.
In a heartfelt speech during Tuesday’s event, Paul Strickland Scanner Centre CEO Claire Strickland paid tribute to the donors, fundraisers, and other supporters. She said: “The level of investment we have been able to make would not have been possible without the generosity and hard work of our supporters. Our team at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence in cancer imaging, and charitable giving makes this possible.”
