Putting patients first
Our support for the proposed changes to Mount Vernon Cancer Centre
NHS East of England has launched a public consultation on proposed changes to specialist cancer services at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC), running from 19 January to 29 March 2026.
We believe the proposals set out in the consultation will bring significant benefits to cancer patients and their families.
Since our foundation in 1985, Paul Strickland Scanner Centre has worked in close partnership with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and we are proud to play our part in supporting the excellent clinical care that staff from MVCC provide. We are therefore delighted that the proposals currently subject to this consultation aim to enhance and consolidate services for the benefit of people with cancer.
We are excited by the proposal to build a new cancer centre on the Watford General Hospital site. This modern facility will give patients local access to services including vital acute medical support which is essential for contemporary cancer care. The move will improve patient access and expand opportunities for clinical research.
We are very proud of the service being delivered on the current Mount Vernon site, but the benefits of relocating MVCC services to a modern, purpose-built cancer centre that is fit for 21st century medicine, are significant. We believe the proposed changes will lead to even better outcomes for future patients.
