A patient settles into one of our MRI scanners. The scan will take less time than it would have a few years ago. The images produced will be scan today is because of someone they may have never met. Across Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, traces of supporters’ generosity can clearer. The technology supporting the examination is among the most advanced available. What the patient won’t know is that part of the reason they are receiving that be found in unexpected places. It is there in the equipment used by radiographers, in research projects taking place behind the scenes and in service improvements designed to make visiting the centre easier for patients. Many of those developments have one thing in common: they were made possible by gifts left in Wills.
As an independent medical charity, Paul Strickland Scanner Centre relies on charitable support to fund enhancements to our services. In the first 6 months of this financial year, legacy gifts provided almost a third of our charitable income, proving how important these gifts are to us.
New MRI suite
A gift left by a supporter in her Will helped complete our fundraising appeal for two new MRI scanners in in recent years. The new scanners not only produce higher-quality images than those they replaced, but can also capture scans faster.
Deep Resolve AI software for our scanners
The impact of our two new MRI scanners was further enhanced when a legacy gift funded Deep Resolve AI software. This technology reduces scan times for patients, enabling us to scan more people each day while also producing higher-quality images for referring doctors.
Groundbreaking ovarian cancer research
A gift left by a supporter in her Will funded an innovative study exploring how CT scans can improve the monitoring of ovarian cancer. The findings, published in the medical journal Cancer Imaging, suggest a more reliable way to assess how patients are responding to treatment, particularly those without measurable tumours. The research has the potential to improve clinical decision-making
and patient care.
