A consultation into the future of Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC) launches today (19/1).
Although Paul Strickland Scanner Centre is an independent medical charity and we control our own destiny, we have worked in very close partnership with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre since our inception in 1985 and are proud to be the part of the Mount Vernon story.
We are positive about the future and welcome the review into the future of Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. In particular, we agree with and are reassured by the Clinical Advisory Panel’s express recommendation that any reconfiguration of Mount Vernon Cancer Centre should retain the co-location with Paul Strickland Scanner Centre.
The proposal under consultation involves relocating MVCC – and Paul Strickland Scanner Centre – to a new purpose-built cancer centre at Watford General Hospital, with additional services offered in local hospitals to minimise patient travel. With the rebuild of Watford General Hospital already approved and set to begin in 2032, this proposal, if approved after public consultation, would add world class cancer services to the site, creating a centre of excellence in Watford.
The key elements of the plan include
- Main Cancer Centre Relocation
- Expanded Local Services
- Enhanced Patient Support
