Whole-body MRI (full-body MRI) cancer screening

Our private whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is a safe, painless way to check for signs of cancer from your head to your knees. These scans can spot cancer early, even before symptoms appear, giving you peace of mind.
If you want to stay on top of your health or have a family history of cancer, a whole-body MRI at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre can give you clear answers.
What is a whole-body MRI?
A whole-body MRI uses magnets and radio waves to produce detailed images of your organs, tissues, bones and blood vessels. Unlike X-rays or computed tomography (CT) scans, MRI doesn’t involve radiation. This makes it a safe option for a thorough health check.
Completed in a single appointment, the scan can detect cancers early, often before symptoms appear. Because the scan is quick, painless and non-invasive, you can get back to your day straight away.
We’ll share your results within two weeks and take the time to explain what they mean for you.
Why choose a whole-body MRI scan?
Whole-body MRI can find cancer early, before symptoms or spread. This can make treatment work better and give you peace of mind.
This scan is suitable for anyone who wants a full cancer check, even if you have no symptoms. It’s especially useful if cancer runs in your family or you’ve been exposed to environmental factors.
You can book the scan yourself for reassurance, or your GP can refer you. Our expert radiographers use the latest MRI technology to give you quick and accurate results.

Preparing for your scan
Most people don’t need to do anything special to prepare. We will provide clear instructions to you in advance.
During your scan
The scan usually takes around 45 to 60 minutes. You’ll lie on a comfortable scanner table while the machine takes detailed images of your body.Â
We use Deep Resolve Boost technology, which uses artificial intelligence (AI). The Deep Resolve Boost technology provides you with enhanced, high-quality images and faster scan times – making your experience as quick and accurate as possible.
Our wide-bore scanners give you more space, helping to ease feelings of claustrophobia. The scan is painless, non-invasive and involves no radiation. We provide headphones or earplugs to reduce noise, and our radiographers carefully check any implants or devices to keep you safe.
After your scan
Your images will be independently reviewed by two consultant radiologists specialising in oncology. You and your GP will receive a detailed report within two weeks. If anything urgent is found, we’ll contact you right away to arrange care.
Clear, reliable results from expert radiologists
Every whole-body MRI scan at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre is reviewed by two consultant radiologists who specialise in cancer imaging. The scans are enhanced with Deep Resolve Boost technology, which uses AI to improve image quality and speed up results.Â
To ensure results are clear and consistent, we use the internationally recognised Onco-RADS system. This system sorts results into five levels, from normal or harmless to highly suspicious, helping to guide your next steps in care.
We’ve been at the forefront of whole-body MRI research for decades. Our radiologists publish research on whole-body MRI and share their work at top medical conferences.
Research shows that for people without symptoms, whole-body MRI finds cancer in around 1–2% of cases. It also offers reassurance by ruling out disease. Our expert team uses proven methods to make sure your results are accurate and reliable.

What if I get claustrophobic in the scanner?
Our wide-bore scanners provide extra space to help you feel comfortable. We also offer headphones or earplugs, and our radiographers will support you throughout.
How soon will I get my results?
Your report is usually ready within two weeks. If anything urgent is found, you will be contacted immediately.
Do I still need NHS screening tests?
