Builders are about to start work on what could be the biggest upgrade to Paul Strickland Scanner Centre since we first opened our doors in 1985. The upgrade entails replacing four scanners at the centre in the same year and will bring the artificial intelligence revolution sweeping medicine to Mount Vernon. Claire Strickland, our Chief Executive, said: “The project is well underway and we’re now in the first stages of the building work. Our current 3T MRI scanner, which is due for replacement, is being ramped down while we await the scheduled arrival of a temporary mobile 1.5T MRI scanner.
The mobile scanner is a Siemens AERA, the same type of scanner as we are already using for our imaging and radiotherapy collaboration with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. The AERA was installed in 2018 and both our radiographers and radiologists are very used to it. I expect it to be a seamless transition for the team and the service we provide to patients.”
