An honorary Consultant Radiologist at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital has won a prestigious award in a pan European competition, it has been announced.

Dr Vicky Goh, who is chair of Clinical Cancer Imaging at King’s College London as well as honorary consultant at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, has been crowned Most Influential Radiology Researcher in the 2019 EuroMinnies competition. The competition is organised and run by AuntMinnieEurope, a Europe-wide online hub for radiologists and related professionals with more than 29,000 members.

Paul Strickland Scanner Centre is an independent medical charity working to improve the lives of people affected by cancer and other serious conditions through the use of medical imaging.

Dr Goh told AuntminnieEurope.com: “I went into research primarily to improve my understanding of underlying disease processes in cancer.”

“I wanted to make a difference to the care of patients. Cancer remains a global killer and imaging plays such a key role in the patient pathway. The end goal of being able to contribute, even in small way, to improve patient experience and patient outcome is what motivates me and when things don’t go to plan.”

Prof Goh emphasised the team effort that goes into research, stressing her gratitude to her colleagues and those she has worked with. She said: “Effective research can only come about through the efforts of many individuals.”

Trophies are being presented at the European Congress of Radiology in Vienna at the end of February.
