A gift left to Paul Strickland Scanner Centre in her Will by one of our supporters will allow us to buy a new device that will result in superior MRI scan image quality.
The MRI power injector would be used for dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI scans, which use a “contrast agent” to improve the visibility of organs, inflammation, tumours and tissue. Linda Culver, MRI Superintendent at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, said: “Clear, high-resolution images help radiologists to detect tumours which may not otherwise have been visible.
“They also reduce the need for repeat scans and avoid delays to patient treatment, which can make a significant difference to patient outcomes. “Power injectors also create flexibility for our radiographers who manually inject patients, freeing up time for other clinical duties.
”An MRI power injector typically costs in the region of £20,000. Caroline Wren, who is responsible for legacy fundraising at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, said “We know many of you have recently been reflecting on the things that matter the most – family, friends and the causes close to your heart. Many have also been reminded of the value of planning for the future in order to look after the things you care about most.
“After taking care of your family and friends, even a small amount can make a huge impact. Legacy donations are absolutely essential to our mission to provide patients with high-quality equipment and programmes that bring about long-term changes for cancer patients. By leaving a gift to us in your Will, you will enable us to provide your children and grand-children with next-level cancer diagnostic and monitoring services, enabling and leveraging the crucial cancer treatments of tomorrow.”

Our supporter Jenny Grainge shares why she has pledged a legacy to Paul Strickland Scanner Centre in her Will
“Unfortunately, my introduction to Paul Strickland Scanner Centre was in the worst possible way when my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in June 2000.
“He attended the Centre for a course of radiotherapy, and although this did not prove successful (he died in the August) we were very comforted by the care and kindness of the staff. After his death the opportunity arose for me to support the Centre, mainly by volunteering for supermarket collections and later the Christmas wrapping. I felt I wanted to help an organisation that did its very best to help him and obviously a gift in my will should, I hope, prolong that help.”
